Philip J. Smith is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Integrated Systems Engineering at the Ohio State University. He is a Fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and was a recipient of the Air Traffic Control Association’s David J. Hurley Memorial Award for Research in Collaborative Decision Making in 2009. Dr. Smith teaches courses in the areas of cognitive systems engineering, human error, artificial intelligence, human/automation interaction, and the design of distributed work systems. He is a recognized as a leader in the field of cognitive systems engineering and the design of distributed work systems. He has extensive experience on projects dealing with these critical topics using air traffic flow management, flight deck automation and airline operations.
